Huawei and Mesosphere Introduce CloudFoundry-Mesos

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Dec. 16 -- Huawei and Mesosphere announced the integration of a new Cloud Foundry framework developed by Huawei that fully supports running cloud-native applications on Mesosphere's Datacenter Operating System (DCOS). The new framework, called CloudFoundry-Mesos, is open source and available on GitHub.

Built by Huawei in collaboration with Mesosphere, CloudFoundry-Mesos allows cloud-native applications to run in a rich, multiservice environment with reliability, security, scalability and flexibility. The collaboration between Huawei and Mesosphere allows enterprises to develop container-packaged cloud-native applications within a Cloud Foundry platform-as-a-service (PaaS) environment, and run those applications on the Mesosphere DCOS concurrently with other workloads. The DCOS can run on virtually any Linux machine (and soon on Windows), which means enterprises can run cloud-native applications in private datacenter, public cloud or even hybrid environments.

"The new Cloud Foundry framework is part of Huawei's ongoing endeavor in the development of a robust PaaS platform that combines both open source and Huawei advanced technologies, with the goal of making it easier for customers to deploy and manage applications in a hyper-scale cloud environment," said Ying Xiong, Chief Architect of Cloud Platform at Huawei. "As part of Huawei's vision of enabling the hyper-scale cloud computing environment, a holistic Mesos resource management infrastructure facilitates significant deployment flexibilities and improves resource utilization efficiencies – on the lines of 'Datacenter as a Computer' like distributed computing model. Integrating this new framework into Mesosphere DCOS deployments allows enterprises to build and run cloud-native apps, and use cluster resources at scale, while doing it all in tandem with other data center services such as Hadoop and Spark."

Mesosphere's DCOS drastically simplifies the process of creating, deploying and managing modern applications. It is built on a foundation of Apache Mesos and other open source technologies. By aggregating up to tens of thousands of machines into a single resource pool, the DCOS lets users easily deploy and manage distributed systems such as Apache Spark, Apache Cassandra and Kubernetes, as well as massive collections of Docker containers, without worrying about which machines they will run on or how they need to be configured. The developmental and operational benefits of the DCOS and its core components have already been proven in production at large companies such as Apple, Twitter, Yelp, Verizon, Samsung and more.

"Mesosphere is happy to be working with Huawei on the important task of integrating Cloud Foundry with our Datacenter Operating System and the greater Mesos ecosystem," said Florian Leibert, co-founder and CEO of Mesosphere. "Our customers are building applications that will help them thrive in a software-driven 21st-century economy, and we intend to support the technologies that will make their developers more productive, their IT operations more efficient and their applications more powerful."

About Mesosphere

Mesosphere is building the datacenter operating system (DCOS) to help enterprises unlock the next generation of scale, efficiency and automation. The Mesosphere DCOS pools datacenter and compute resources, gives IT operators a much simpler administration model, and improves developer velocity with more modern abstractions and APIs for writing distributed systems. Backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Data Collective, Fuel Capital, Khosla Ventures and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Mesosphere is headquartered in San Francisco with additional offices in New York and Hamburg, Germany.
