The IT industry added 14,400 tech jobs in July, according to preliminary numbers released by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report on Friday, August 4, 2017.

“Employment in the IT industry increased by nearly 30 percent in July over June,” said Jay Rollins, owner of ITJobsWeb.com, a leading IT jobs website. “After revisions, June added 11,100 jobs across the four main sectors that form the IT industry.”

The information technology sector, which includes the data processing, hosting and related services subsector, the computer electronic product manufacturing subsector, the computer systems design and related services subsector, and the management and technical consulting services subsector, now employs 4,854,400 persons. “The industry has added 135,000 jobs over the last 12 months, despite slower growth within computer electronic manufacturing,” said Rollins.

Management and technical consulting services added 7,000 jobs last month, “the highest employment gain of all 4 IT sectors,” said Rollins. Over the previous 12 months, the sector has added 75,100 jobs.

The data processing and hosting sector added 1,200 jobs and now employs 305,000 persons.

Computer electronic manufacturing added 1,300 jobs in July, a small drop from the 2,400 jobs added in June. Over the last year, the industry has lost 6,900 jobs and now sits at 1,400,000 employed persons.

Computer systems design added 4,900 jobs last month, a 28.9 percent increase over June’s employment gain of 3,800 jobs. Over the last year, the sector has increased by 61,600 and now sits at 2,058,000 jobs.
