Gartner Names UberCloud a Cool Vendor in Oil & Gas

UberCloud Inc., a leading online community and marketplace platform for engineers and scientists, announced today that it has been listed in Gartner’s Cool Vendors in Oil & Gas 2015 report, published by Gartner analysts Rich McAvey, Leif Eriksen, Morgan Eldred, on April 21, 2015.

The UberCloud community and marketplace has been established in 2012. At that time the enterprise cloud market started to attract wider attention, but the technical computing cloud market still faced many roadblocks. Engineers and scientists were confronted with challenges like cloud security, software licensing, data transfer, and losing control over their assets in the cloud. That’s when UberCloud introduced its well-known cloud experiments, with teams consisting of an industry end-user, their software provider, a cloud resource provider, and experts as needed. As of today over 170 cloud experiments have been performed and 50 case studies published.

“We believe that the inclusion of the UberCloud in the Gartner Cool Vendor category of Oil & Gas validates our readiness as the one-stop shop for engineers and scientists to discover, try, and buy computing power and complete solutions on demand, in the cloud”, said Wolfgang Gentzsch, President of the UberCloud. “We are confident that this much valued Gartner recognition will further accelerate the acceptance of cloud computing in Oil & Gas and other application areas.”

With the experience gained from these experiments, in 2013, UberCloud was able to identify the major challenges and their potential solutions and started to work on its groundbreaking UberCloud Application Software Container technology which today helps to reduce or even completely removed many of the cloud challenges. Recently, UberCloud opened its online cloud services marketplace with currently 28 service stores for cloud resources, application software, expertise, training, and software tools. Another 20 cloud services stores are in the pipeline. These stores all address the needs of scientists and engineers and their service providers in CAE, Bio, Chemistry, Oil & Gas, and other compute-intensive application areas.
