Report Shows Ethernet Switch Market Exceeded $22 Billion in 2013

According to a recent report by Dell’Oro Group, the Layer 2-3 Ethernet Switch market exceeded $22 billion in 2013, with most segments achieving record revenues during the year.

“Cloud providers’ insatiable demand for network equipment and strong growth in enterprise data centers contributed to the majority of the revenue increase we saw in the Ethernet Switch market,” said Alan Weckel, Vice President of Ethernet Switch market research at Dell’Oro Group.  “White box switching continued to gain momentum in 2013, especially among the mega Cloud providers, outperforming the overall market, albeit from a smaller base.  Sales into enterprise customers also outpaced the market overall with many vendors in this segment achieving record years.  Although we expect the impact of the Cloud and the emergence of local vendors in China to weigh heavily on the market and individual vendor performance throughout the year, nevertheless we anticipate overall market growth will continue in 2014,” stated Weckel.

The Report also reveals a record number of vendors exceeded $400 million in 2013, including Cisco Systems, Dell, Extreme Networks [including Enterasys Networks], Hewlett-Packard, Huawei, and Juniper Networks.
