Texas A&M University System Releases a $4M Project Call to Advance US Manufacturing

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS, Sept. 2, 2020 — The SecureAmerica Institute, led by The Texas A&M University System, has released a $4 million project call as part of a nationwide initiative for a secure and resilient U.S. manufacturing and industrial base.

The project call will focus on advancing the security and resilience of U.S. manufacturers and their supply chains. Funding will go to competitively selected projects aimed at developing technologies and sharing best practices.

The inaugural project call topics are focused on three important areas:

  1. Forecasting and Decision Support Systems
This group of topics will explore new strategies for customer collaboration and decision support systems that are necessary for achieving more realistic forecasts for base demand (including artificial intelligence and machine learning) and for capturing the ability of the U.S. manufacturing supply chains to rebound from disruptions and inaccuracies.
  2. Next-Generation Supply Chain Resilience and Risk Mitigation Strategies
This group of topics will explore cost-effective data analytics, risk mitigation strategies, methods for repurposing and modularizing existing manufacturing assets, cybersecurity, sensor fusion techniques, and design methodologies.
  3. Trusted Data, Products and Processes
This group of topics will explore methods to characterize device behaviors, ensure secure 5G integration, and ensure trusted data exchange between supply chain business entities and system resiliency architectures.

The inaugural $4 million project call is in partnership with three Manufacturing USA Institutes, America Makes (additive manufacturing), MxD (digital manufacturing) and ARM (robotics manufacturing). The institutes are organized to ensure that the United States is the world’s leader in manufacturing innovation in the coming decades.

Technical topic areas for the project call were established through the industry-facing Manufacturing USA partners as well as key university partners, including the Georgia Institute of Technology, North Carolina State University, the Colorado School of Mines and the University of California, Los Angeles.

The SecureAmerica Institute is headquartered at the Texas A&M System RELLIS Campus while drawing on a diverse network of experts and facilities in more than 21 states, and over 75 private-sector and public-sector partners among leading manufacturers, industry groups, research labs and universities.
