EchoStreams, Nyriad Partner to Release Next-Generation Flash Storage Server

DENVER, Colo., Nov.20, 2019 -- EchoStreams Innovative Solutions LLC and Nyriad Limited today announced a partnership to release a next-generation flash storage server that has industry-leading resilience with added capability of data encryption/decryption speeds of up to 50GB/s suited for 5G, edge gateway, micro and traditional data center applications.

Nyriad’s revolutionary storage controlling software unifies four key hardware components (CPU, GPU, NVDimms and Flash) to enable a new class of storage solution. Matched to EchoStreams cutting-edge hardware design, this 1U server can store up to 0.5PB of data, with unparalleled write performance even when the array is degraded. In-line AES256 encryption, SHA2/CRC check summing and Nyriad’s proprietary high-parity erasure coding are processed on the CPU or GPU depending on the application needs to give new levels of array resilience and security, while also improving power efficiency.

“The immediate problem that our software-defined storage solution solves,” says Matthew Simmons, CEO of Nyriad “is real-time encryption and decryption of data, so data is safe at rest on the storage media without compromising application performance. This has significant implications for remote storage deployments such as micro data centers or edge gateways, where data security threat is heightened.

Unlike Object or Hyper-converged storage architectures, Nyriad’s software sits underneath the operating system (Redhat, Ubuntu, Centos) as a block device and is designed to enable the integration of data processors like ARM, IBM Power, RISC-V, FPGA, ASIC, TPU and any other future custom AI chips. “We believe we’ve created the foundation for ’software-defined computational storage’”, says Simmons. “5G, edge gateway and micro data center applications need ultra-efficient, resilient, and secure storage solutions with upgradable features to meet their future application requirements.”

Gene Lee, President of EchoStreams says, “We are excited to introduce the Gen2 FlascheSAN all flash storage appliance into the market in Q1 2020 in partnership with Nyriad. This server is powered by AMD Rome PCIe Gen4 CPU, Nvidia T4 GPU, 36x Micron M.2’s and NVDimms, capable of providing 0.5PB of flash storage. Nyriad’s technology greatly improves the resiliency, security and longevity of flash storage arrays, making our FlascheSAN appliance an ideal solution for traditional and micro data centers.”

Nyriad is a member of the SNIA Computational Storage Technical Work Group (TWG) and has been working with many major component manufacturers, ODMs, OEMs and System Integrators to ensure that their software will be available across multiple suppliers in the coming months.
