AI-Based Approaches to Computational Chemistry to be Presented at Microway- Sponsored Emory Univ. Symposium

PLYMOUTH, Mass. Oct. 9, 2019  Microway, a leading provider of computational clusters, servers, and workstations for AI and HPC, announces continuing co-sponsorship of the Emory University Cherry L. Emerson Center for Scientific Computation Emerson Center Lectureship Award Symposium 2019 – Advancing Molecular Sciences by Machine Learning and Quantum Computing.

Professor Alán Aspuru-Guzik, Professor of Chemistry at the University of Toronto, will deliver the keynote address on October 11, 2019. His talk, The Materials for Tomorrow, Today, argues for a new materials discovery approach focusing on materials acceleration platforms (MAPs) that are enabled by the confluence of artificial intelligence (AI), high-throughput quantum chemistry (HTQC), and robotics.

End-users worldwide are taking new approaches towards computational challenges by injecting artificial intelligence into their workloads. Professor Aspuru-Guzik’s work includes applying new AI-based approaches towards traditionally simulated computational chemistry.

By steering and augmenting traditional computational chemistry with artificial intelligence algorithms, Professor Aspuru-Guzik has reset expectations for computational chemistry results and dramatically shortened the time required to make suitable materials science outputs.

A multi-disciplinary Emerson Center Symposium event, co-sponsored by Microway, Emory University’s Chemistry Department, and Hightower Foundation, will be held at the Oxford Road Building Presentation Room in Atlanta, Georgia to present this and other crucial works. Professor Aspuru-Guzik is a 2018 Canada 150 Research Chair and will be honored as the 2019 Emerson Center Lectureship Award winner.

Professor Aspuru-Guzik has pioneered the melding of AI and materials science - we are very much looking forward to his presentation,” said Eliot Eshelman, VP Strategic Accounts and HPC Initiatives. “Microway has supplied computational systems to support this work and look forward to our part in accelerating future research. Advances in computational chemistry offer benefits to every person, which is why Microway is proud to offer ongoing support for the Emerson Center Symposium.”

The symposium includes several other speakers with expertise in biology, chemistry, physics, and materials. Francesco Evangelista, Department of Chemistry, Emory University will present Electronic Structure Challenges for Quantum Computing. Matthew Sigman, Department of Chemistry, The University of Utah, will discuss Developing Modern Data Analysis Tools for Synthesis & Catalysis. Rampi Ramprasad, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Georgia Institute of Technology, will present on Polymer Genome: A Machine Learning Platform for Rational Polymer Design.
