RAIDIX Introduces Patented Adaptive Read-Ahead Algorithm to Increase Storage System Performance

Dec. 5, 2018 -- New read-ahead mechanism allows anticipating what data will be queried next and moves it from slower hardware (HDDs) to faster storage means (RAM, SSDs). It also efficiently employs storage cache resources, which can reduce data access time and speed up the overall performance of the storage system. The read-ahead algorithm determines the address sequences in incoming requests and assigns them with unique pre-read values depending on the speed of each stream.

“It has been lots of work, and I am pleased with the positive result: now another innovative idea by RAIDIX team is implemented in our product and protected by the law. At the moment we are focused on the development of RAIDIX ERA, software solution for NVMe devices”, — comments Svetlana Lazareva, head of RAIDIX Research Lab and co-author of the patent.

The adaptive read-ahead algorithm is currently employed in RAIDIX 4.7 storage management software. It is implemented for HDD arrays and will be useful when working with multi-threaded sequential workloads: storing and providing access to records from video surveillance cameras, work with multimedia, namely in the services of streaming video to a variety of clients, as well as when shooting and editing high-resolution video.

RAIDIX software is based on in-house calculation algorithms that are protected by patents in Russia and abroad. State patent protection confirms the company’s exclusive rights to own and employ inventions in software products. Current protection covers unique RAIDIX computing algorithms, QoS algorithm for traffic prioritization, algorithm for medical images compression and RAIDIX software GUI.
