NEC and Quobyte Formalize Partnership to Offer Turnkey Storage Solution for HPC

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and DUSSELDORF, Germany, June 12, 2018 — Quobyte Inc., a leading developer of modern storage system software, and NEC Deutschland GmbH a leading provider of HPC solutions, announced today that they have formalized their partnership to develop and offer a complete storage solution stack for HPC workloads based on NEC HPC hardware and Quobyte’s Data Center File System software.

The NEC-Quobyte solution platform offers researchers aMove to Trashnd enterprises a cost-effective, high-performance storage system based on easily configurable performance and capacity modules that brings the operational efficiencies of hyperscalers to HPC workloads by providing a massively scalable modern file system alternative to aged storage architectures. The highly configurable system can easily scale to hundreds of petabytes without increasing administrative burden, while being able to service large streaming workloads and millions of small file workloads.

The NEC-Quobyte offering is timely as emerging HPC workloads from data research analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer simulations and Internet-of-Things are continuing to stress already constrained storage and administrative budgets, driving the investigation for alternative approaches and providers to help contain costs. “We’re very pleased to finalize our partnership with NEC to offer a joint storage solution to address the evolving needs of the HPC and supercomputing community,” said Felix Hupfeld, Quobyte Co-Founder and CTO. “Their rich history in developing and offering enterprise HPC solutions for nearly three decades is a testament to their expertise and ongoing commitment to developing innovative storage technologies. Quobyte’s full stack Data Center File System combined with their HPC hardware system results in a much needed storage solution that will help to eliminate the bottlenecks and pricing traps of legacy hardware-based storage while providing the performance, security, and ease of operation of modern hyperscale architectures.”

“Quobyte’s comprehensive knowledge base and experience gained in working with hyperscale storage solutions at Google combined with their expertise in developing a unified, secure, self-healing global file system for scalable storage is the perfect complement to our hardware platform,” added NEC’s Oliver Tennert, Director HPC Solutions and Marketing EMEA. “We look forward to delivering a combined HPC solution that will save on capex and opex costs; helping to significantly reduce the administrative burdens placed on storage administrators having to deal with legacy HPC storage architectures.”

Quobyte will be exhibiting at the upcoming ISC High Performance 2018 Exhibition and Conference in Frankfurt, Germany, from June 24 – 28, 2018 in booth K-415.

About Quobyte

Building on a decade of research and experience with the open-source distributed file system XtreemFS and from working on Google’s infrastructure, Quobyte delivers on the promise of software defined storage for the world’s most demanding application environments including High Performance Computing (HPC), Media & Entertainment (M&E), Life Sciences, Financial Services, and Electronic Design Automation (EDA). Quobyte uniquely leverages hyperscaler parallel distributed file system technologies to unify file, block, and object storage. This allows customers to easily replace storage silos with a single, scalable storage system — significantly saving manpower, money, and time spent on storage management. Quobyte allows companies to scale storage capacity and performance linearly on commodity hardware while eliminating the need to expand administrative staff through the software’s ability to self-monitor, self-maintain, and self-heal.
