Republican Candidates Agree: Manufacturing Essential

Candidates square off at Republican President Forum on Manufacturing.

On Nov. 1, the Republican Presidential Forum on Manufacturing was held at Vermeer Corporation, Pella Iowa. It was organized by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).

It’s not often that we get to hear candidates talk substantively about manufacturing. This forum gave each candidate an opportunity to air their views. All expressed the opinion that manufacturing is vital to the United States.

Highlights included: Governor Perry who thinks that government should not be picking technology winners and losers but supports government funded R&D; and former Speaker Gingrich proposing that the best way to combat China is to create a more capable workforce by linking unemployment benefits to mandatory job training.

The entire event is available here.
